Youth beaten to death near TMC office : Durgapur, 25 October 2013 A youth suspected to be a Trinamul Congress activist was lynched to death in the outskirts of Burdwan town this evening allegedly by the rival faction members of the party. Dilar Sheikh (36), a broker by profession was commonly seen with Trinamul Congress leaders and members in Dubrajdighi locality since two years. According to the police: “He received threat from some of his colleagues in recently, which he had intimated also to the party leaders.” Today, at around 6 p.m. he was attacked by a group of 15 persons near the party office. They dragged him to a roadside tea stall and started beating him up with logs and rods. He, being alone couldn’t resist the them and no-one came into his rescue when they started beating him severely, causing him fatal injuries. The area, police said was almost deserted due to the continuous rain. The body with oozing wounds was later found lying at the spot, scant metres away from the Trinamul Congress party office. Mr Nurul Hasan, local Trinamul Congress leader and newly elected member of the Burdwan Zilla Parishad said: “He did not have a good reputation in the locality and as I came to know, he was attacked by his rival gang members.” The police arrived after half an hour of the incident but couldn’t make any arrest. The SP, Burdwan, Mr S M H Meerza said: “The goons who killed the youth were from Dangapara and Mathpara localities in the neighbourhood and as we came to know, it was a result of a grudge. No political link has bee identified as yet though.” Mr Meerza said: The deceased used to disturb the locals over many matters and was involved in several cases. He was arrested by the Burdwan police station several times earlier.”
