Youth known to Child Welfare within Alberta continue to lose their lives at alarming rates. Calls for Independent Investigation into Human Services and Inquiry into the deaths of Aboriginal females continue to be denied by the Government. The Alberta Premier, Dave Hancock, leader of the PC government was also the Provincial Minister of Human Services; an individual who ignored public and opposition leaders’ requests for investigation of Children’s Services and now, undermines Inquiry for murdered and missing Native women. Seven years ago (2007), Weslyn Mather, Liberal MLA for Mill Woods, said Ninas (Cortepatte) horrific death is an example of the danger that exists when the Department of Childrens Services fails at its job. Despite numerous calls by child-care intervenors that had received claims of abuse and even a full investigation into the family, the children were left in an unsupported home and barely attended school, and the calls kept coming. Why did the system let this girl fall through the cracks? Mather said during question period before calling for a public inquiry. ‘“Alberta Liberal Leader Raj Sherman has written the prime minister asking for a public inquiry into the deaths of foster children in the province.” Human Services Minister Dave Hancock says Sherman is grasping at straws.’ “The head of the Alberta Foster Parent Association (Katherine Jones) says media questioning of foster care should not be allowed. The comment followed a damning media investigation that found the number of children who have died in government care is nearly triple the official numbers.” (In 2013 there were 89 more child fatalities revealed than what had been publicly declared by government. By 2014, the death toll climbed by hundreds - more than 13% - reaching 761 victims.) “Premier cool to inquiry on murdered, missing aboriginal women Premier Dave Hancock said he’s not certain there is value in a public inquiry into murdered and missing aboriginal women, even as other provinces press the federal government to launch a national probe into the issue.” “Alberta Premier Dave Hancock asking RCMP to investigate (former Premier) Alison Redford’s use of aircraft.” If we, the Public, allow for investigation of misuse of public expenditures, surely we consider human life at least equally worthy of inquiry? Look into the face of this 13-year-old child, Nina Louise Courtepatte, a victim of brutal molestation, beaten to death. I ask each of you to reflect with great consideration, what if this were your child, would you believe her life worthy of pursuing answers, justice, accountability and change? REMEMBER THE RESPONSE - AND LACK OF - YOUR PREMIER FOLKS! Proof readily surrounds. *Demand a full public, independent investigation of leadership. Secrecy must end; no more silence, our future depends upon our youth! https://change.org/p/force-rcmp-to-do-a-criminal-investigation-of-children-s-aid-and-the-alberta-justice-lawyers-who-helped-hide-the-deaths-of-685-foster-children-from-the-public - VM
