Youth wave ISIS flags just for fun: IGP =>The state police Saturday nullified the reports of any Islamic State (IS) threats in valley, saying that fewer youth in the past waved the flags for ‘fun’, knowing little what the IS really is. Talking to KNS, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Gani Mir said the youth who waved the IS flags during the stone pelting protests in the old city have no knowledge about the group and they havewaved the black color flags ‘just for fun’. The masked youth had reportedly appeared inside Jamia Masjid in Old City’s,waiving the black color flags recently. Later police detained few youth for questioning over the issue. Reports said that the black flag with the IS marks inscribed were recovered from one of the youth’s possession. Also a huge deployment police and paramilitary forceswas made in the old city after the Friday’s congregational prayers so that to keep an eye over the repetition of any such activity. The IG Kashmir Monday remarked that those youth who were found waving the ISflags know nothing about the organizations and that the activity was carried about just for the purpose of fun. “We are investigating the matter thoroughly and prima facie reveals that those few youth who were found waving the flags know nothing about Islamic state is,” Mir said. The IGP also remarked that the youth pelting stones find Friday favorable as they receive ‘undeserving’ coverage by themedia of their violent activities. “When media gives hype to any of the stone pelting activity in the old city- taking place after the Friday prayers, the youth find it interesting and the same instigate them aswell,” he said. Pertinently, as the media, particularly the electronic media accorded maximum coverage to the emergence of IS flags in Srinagar, the chief minister Omar Abdullah had to clarify that there is no IS presence in Kashmir valley. Omar termed the youth as some ‘idiots’ who waved the IS flags in Srinagar. (KNS)
