Youths Protest Relocation Of FRSC Academy To Enugu Achor Abimaje — March 8, 2014 A group, Concerned Plateau Youths, has staged a peaceful demonstration to protest the recent relocation of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Academy from Jos, Plateau State to Enugu State. The youths, who came out in large numbers, assembled at Government House Rayfield, yesterday, where House of Assembly Members have been sitting in the last one year to demand that the legislators take up the matter. Friday Bako, spokesman for the group, said they had issued the legislators a two-week ultimatum to reverse the relocation or face massive protest by youths from the middle belt region. The FRSC Academy was established in 2007 by then Corps Marshal, Maj.-Gen Haladu Hananiya, for the training of its officers in Jos. But current Corps Marshal, Osita Chidoka, last month, ordered all members of staff at the academy to relocate to Enugu. The youths accused Chidoka of politicising the relocation exercise stating: “Since Mr Osita Chidoka has only about a year left before the expiration of his second and final term in office, is he trying to justify his mostly lack-lustre tenure to his kith and kin by taking away the FRSC Academy from Jos to his home region?” They posited that former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Hananiya who sited the academy in Jos did it because they knew it was the best for the country. “What advantage does Enugu have over Jos to host the academy, especially since it is an acknowledged fact that Plateau has the most conducive weather in the country?” they asked. Bako also told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the FRSC board whose chairman, “Mr Felix Chukwu also hails from the South-East zone as Chidoka seemed to have concurred and connived with the corps marshal to perpetrate this illegality.” The youths further called on the federal government to return the academy to Jos, stressing that they were willing to protest every day to achieve this.
