Youve probably heard of Brownian motion. It describes, among other things, the motion of dust particles in the air and particles suspended in a liquid. A variation of that is the Random Walk hypothesis. Seems rather esoteric and likely not to have much to do with everyday life. However, further insights into the mechanics of Brownian motion seem to offer the possibility of better understanding how Type II Diabetes works and could potentially lead to better treatments and possibly a cure. So, the next time you read about research that seems to you a complete waste of time, just remember this. The fact is, you never know where pure research will lead, or what benefits may accrue from it. Heres a link with info regarding Random Walk: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random_walk
