Yumkela Supporters Hopeful of Victory ........................................................ The recent victory of Chief Bai Sebora Somano Kapen (II), over Ambassador Ali Essa Bangura, at the SLPP convention in the southern city of Bo has not dampened the spirit of supporters of Dr. Kandeh Yumkela, who many believe was a strong backer of the latter. On Sunday August 18, the group met in Bo and agreed to remain a formidable force with the newly elected executives. “We should not breakaway from the party neither should we need to engage in any act that will bring disrepute to the SLPP”, Jobo Momoh, a member of the group lamented. According to the later, between the chief and Ali Bangura was so slim a chance that if they work hard they can easily nip the margin. The meeting looked into recent outburst of the former women’s leader IJ Kabbah and like minds, and admonishments were lashed out that no matter the exigencies of time, as party members, they need to remain loyal and the vision of the party should overwhelm all else. To IJ Kabba and others’ who proposed court action, reacting to the outcome of the election, such action have been considered unnecessary, as it would only give credence to the opinion that the group supporting Ali Bangura has developed stronger ties with the ruling All People’s Congress (APC). The best way towards solidifying the amity amongst the membership of the party is to be supportive and genuine toward the new executive. “We may have been working with the wrong individuals, but now that we know who to deal with and how to do things, we have to forge ahead and establish the true mission of the SLPP, while we stand to protect our motto: One Country One People,” the membership pleaded. Before the commencement of the SLPP convention in Bo, banners with the inscription KANDEH YUMKELA BACK TO BASICS, showcases that the group is back to the drawing board.
