Yummy! Nothing beats Thanksgiving left overs for dinner the next - TopicsExpress

Yummy! Nothing beats Thanksgiving left overs for dinner the next night or so! I dont know how other families do it, but in my family, everyone makes and/or brings something. I think originally, years ago, it was to ease the burden on my Mom and Dad when wed all go to their place for the holiday. Now it has turned into such a Tradition that I cant imagine it anyway else. Everyone in my family is an Excellent Cook! I genuinely look so forward to certain dishes that I only can have once a year. Everyone has a Specialty that they make and bring. I walked out in Brendas kitchen just before dinner yesterday and the first thing that crossed my mind and I said out loud was Oh My God, this looks like the basement of a Lutheran Church! Casserole size dishes all lined up in a row and hot out of the oven for a quick re-heat. All the girls in the family were working to pull it all together. I was tagged to carve the bird this year. This is the only way my niece and my kids have ever known in their life. I see where those 4 young ones take on more and more each year. Makes it easier for Bruce and Brenda for sure. Help me too. (Will a time come when they just want us to Stay Out Of The Way? LOL Theres other, On Going family traditions that we perpetuate too. For a couple of years, Brenda had had major surgery at Thanksgiving time and Bruce had to do the bulk of the cooking. No one in the kitchen was allowed to speak or answer a question except to say Yes, Chef, or No, Chef. Chefs Rules those years. Helped add a sense of Brendas absences from the direct cooking of the meal. Weve got a Hard Ass Chef in the kitchen today. Ha ha ha. . . Watch yourself newbe! Lining up for serving is an ongoing subject as well. Oldest to youngest or tallest to shortest, always puts Mo at the end of the line. She argues like an Attorney in front of the Supreme Court for her right to be at or near the front of the line. Kidded her about her moving to Belleville just to be closer for Thanksgiving too. Its established that that move only brings her car closer to the front of the line for parking is all. First one there makes no difference in this case. Since shes not going to pass anyone in age or gain height, her only chance of moving forward in the line is to either become pregnant or a veteran. Both of which give you Front of the Line privileges. LOL. (Of course, if she does get that close to the front of the line, shell face two people that are both, taller, older and both veterans. Only one tie breaker ace she really has left in that case). Hhhmmmm . . . Thats how my Family Rolls. . . .Hope you all enjoy the gathering that you attend as much as we do ours! I cant imagine it any other way. You cant Pick Your Family, but, Im very blessed by God to have the family I have! Wouldnt change a thing.
