Yup. Lets not talk about the impacts of income inequality and the large percentage of Americans living at or below the poverty level ($23,000 for a family of 4). That is the largest predictor of academic success - not teachers, not schools, not curricula, not technology. Poverty. So lets, instead, hate on teachers for not being able to perform an impossible task. Are there bad teachers? Yes. Just like in every other field. Education is not immune to bad teachers and poor union decisions. But, reform to these 11 mentioned in this article means standardization - which is always a race to the lowest common denominator. The money being invested in reform is staggering, and, not surprisingly, is making little impact. But I dont mean to interrupt the narrative that our schools are failing because of unions and touchy feely teachers who lack rigor and drive.
