Yuri Janssen did it again! October 29th, 2013 So far, from the monday onwards on which the horrifying monster showed itself in terrifying way, everything is going according the way we want to. The effects of the irradiation is bigger then we could have hoped for, and everything that needs to recover, is recovering, or did already recover. Of course, to be irridiated is a avery heavy thing to undergo. Of course shes suffering from the side effects of that. Of course her life has been put up side down. Of course, there is grief, anger and fear. But theres also hope, urge to survive and perseverance. And those forces, those forces are way, way stronger than all the negative signals, all the negative floodings being directed into Ilses direction with the regularity of a clock. Those negative signals have no chance at all against the durable, positive mindset of Ilse. Last Sunday, we had the traditional pre-chemo-out-for-dinner-night Yesterday, no chemo yet, due to an overbooked daycare treatment location. So yesterday, only irradiation, an hour to school, and a meeting with Ilses mentor afterwards. Again it became clear to us that Ilses school will help us where they can. Today, the start of the first chemo therapy. This therapy will take 5 days, spent in daycare. This means that Ilse can go home as soon as the chemo has been supplied. We expected to see faces we did not see before, which was partly true. Unfortunately though, we also met some acquaintances. At this department, patients in daycare are allowed to select one of the super deluxe seats. We selected the chair next to Puck. We met Puck regularly yet during the prior period Because we are following the blog of Puck, it was no surprise for us to find her here. Meanwhile, it still was feeling rather strange. Ilse was being connected to the chemo therapy equipment, and the treatment started pretty soon after our entry. Jill paid us a visit, just as grandmother and grandfather. Nice! After a while, we spotted another acquaintance: Vive. Vive was treated a few years ago as well, during the same period of Ilses prior treatment. Vive was suffering from a Ewing Sarcom as well during that period. In the meantime, the monster has returned within her as well. An amputation of her left lower leg, and irradiation of her right leg have already taken place. At this moment, she is undergoing chemo therapy as well. A little later, Enzio entered the department. Enzio from Almere. He had to start over the same fight as well, starting a year ago. More and more, we start to realize that a second attack of the monster is not an incident. More and more, we start to realize that a definite solution is still far away. So many children who are seized by this dramatic fate. So many children who have to fight with all the power they possess in order to yet overcome the battle. Its unimaginable that for some types of cancer, mega investments have taken place, which leaves a very small budget for the rare types of cancer. From our opinion, this budget should be divided more equal. From our opinion, the big collections for the common types of cancer move the improvement of treatments of not common types of cancer to an underdog position. But we were talking about the treatment of Ilse. So far, so good. Ilse succeeded the chemo therapy of today while enjoying her meatball sanwich and playing card games of Hearts. Time did pass quite fast. After the chemo therapy, irradiation number 17 No indication of any negative side effects of the chemo therapy. However, we did not expect any. The negative side effects of chemo therapy usually show up at a later stage. Well have to await for a while, but again: so far, so good.
