ZDF guarantees national peace and security: President Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe says the Zimbabwe Defence Forces have excelled and earned deserved recognition as reliable and principled guarantors of national peace and security and have contributed to lasting peace regionally and internationally. Addressing guests and graduands at the end of the Joint Command and Staff Course Number 26 at the Zimbabwe Staff College in Harare on Friday, Cde Mugabe commended the college for continuing to provide quality personnel training and development programmes for the country and other allied forces. President Mugabe attributed the successful exploits of the ZDF both at home and abroad to the high levels of professionalism and diligence that characterises the defence forces derived from their high quality personnel training and development programmes. “The Zimbabwe Defence Forces training and development policy is a reflection of the unquestionable credentials of its commanders and men and women who have become an epitome of Zimbabwe’s unshakable resistance to colonialism and neo-colonialism, as well as exploitation and abuse of Zimbabwean resources by erstwhile colonial masters and their types,” said President Mugabe. President Mugabe expressed appreciation that the Zimbabwe Staff College continues to promote and inculcate the virtues of nationalism and patriotism into the students saying armed with such virtues the officers will not pander to the whims and caprices of neo-colonialists. “Through the same virtues the officers are better armed to identify the local allies of the detractors who crave for the imperial domination of the country,” Cde Mugabe said. He commended the defence forces for being the true vanguard of Zimbabwe’s revolution, freedom and democracy. The Joint Command and Staff Course Number 26 began with an enrolment of 55 students comprising local and regional officers from Tanzania, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia and Botswana. The officers were drawn from the army, Air Force, police, prisons and the President’s office. Of the 55 students, 5 are females. Cde Mugabe paid tribute to the People’s Republic of China and other well-wishers for assisting in the development and training of the defence forces. The curriculum of the Joint Command and Staff Course included geo-political studies, which were aimed at moulding students into all round versatile adept officers capable of analysing, interpreting and making informed decisions that are relevant to the various environments.
