ZEN FITS Rumble on the Border. A study of ambiguity. We reject invading immigrants like we reject the opinions of others. Once we create borders our logic defends them from any intruders. So we can see that this current flap at the border with (not Mexicans) but children from a third world violent country, much like the Syrian refugees housed in the countries bordering Syria. We cant wish this one away. We are caught in the Catch 22 of our own laws and values. So this event at the Border is all about us Americans. It is an ambiguous situation, and that is why it explodes emotions that way it does. What is the ambiguity? This is a clash of two valid imperatives: (1) keep our borders secure for it is our front line immune system. (2) Welcome all who seek refuge from tyranny on our shores. So we see here that we cant do both in this situation, no can we do one or the other, because this is a see saw; If you push down on one imperative, the other end comes up;if you push down on that end, the other end comes up. See..saw....You cant get off by trying to do one or the other of these equally valid imperatives or commandment. And our inability to get off this painful see saw of ambiguity creates violent emotions, absurd scenes of good people yelling at children as if they were monsters. It is the ambiguity of the situation that has two ways to go: either it goes to violence and self destruction or it goes to compassion and a creative solution.
