ZNBC: My humble suggestion is that an effective non-aligned Board of Directors be composed to manage and direct the affairs of the Corporation. (Please inform me if there is one in place already. Forgive me if there is, for we don’t hear much about them.) These Directors should be drawn from among academics, researchers, journalists, financiers, civic society, religious groups or representatives of the main political parties. The ToRs for this Board have to be succinct and clear. It is this Board that should appoint the Director-General of ZNBC ON MERIT. The best approach would be to widely advertise the DG position so that all who feel competent and well-skilled apply. The selection process ought to follow the standard and stringent 3 to 4 phase approach in appointing the DG. There are successful best practises in similar institutions in Africa and globally which we can benchmark. The job spec should also be very clear and transparent. And in the interest of transparency, ZNBC being a public entity which is ultimately accountable to the public, it should be mandatory that the CVs or portfolio of the top 3 candidates be made public, so that even when the final candidate is chosen we have a good idea of their competencies. MAYBE, just MAYBE then, professional applicants with the requisite skills, experience and a viable turn around strategy for our beloved ZNBC, can consider competing for the post of Director-General ZNBC.
