Kan Zosap missionary hmasa te pahnih (Presbyterian kohhran account lo dah tha lawk ila) khan 1905-a mission report an ziahnaah heti hian an tarlang a: Drink is one of the curses of this land. The Lushais do not know what moderation is where rice-beer is concerned, and the only course open for the converts is to abstain from it altogether (BMS South Lushai Report, 1905; Missionaries; J.H Lorrain& F.W. Savidge) 1913-a an report ah heti hian an ziak leh bawk a: Then there is the question of strong drink, which is undoubtedly the greatest curse that exists in the Lushai Hills. We held liberal view on this matter also when we first came among the people, and, although we were total abstainers ourselves we were not at all anxious to compel our converts to follow our example. But very soon we found that to be temperate in matter of strong drink was out of the question for them. A single horn of the liquor always led to another and yet another, and almost invariably ended in intoxication. That indeed is the only object a Lushai has in view when he drinks. The associations of strong drink in Lushai are all utterly opposed to holy Christian life. At a beer drink all the vilest passions of the people are let loose, obscene songs and jests abound, and it is unthinkable that any follower of Jesus could join such a company and still keep his garment unspotted by the world. So with the full consent of our early converts, we made a rule that strong drink must be abandoned by all Lushais who wish to join the Christian community, and therefore everyone who bears the name of Christian in this country is a total abstainer (BMS Report of 1913. Missionaries: J.H. Lorraine, Mrs. Lorraine, F.W. Savidge & Mrs. Savidge) Pu Buanga leh Sap Upa ten kum 100 kaltaa Mizo te (chhim lam chauh an ni lo turah ngai ta ila) khawsak dan an observe hi Pathian hminga ziak an ni a.
