Zambia have retained just eight players from their African Nations Cup-winning squad of three years ago for this year’s tournament as they today named their final 23-man squad. Rainford Kalaba will captain the team which has undergone a drastic transition since winning the continental championship in Gabon in 2012. Among those left out are ex-skipper Christopher Katongo, dropped from the preliminary squad named last month, and fellow forward James Chamanga, one of four players culled when the final selection was named at a press conference in Johannesburg, where the team are preparing, by coach Honour Janza. There are just three players from the PSL in the squad, in the shape of Kennedy Mweene, Mukuka Mulenga and Davies Nkausu, in marked contrast to previous showings at the tournament. Zambia have been drawn with Tunisia, Cape Verde and DR Congo in Group B at the finals in Equatorial Guinea.
