Zambia to host 4-nation tournament ZAMBIA will host a four-nation football tournament to mark the official opening of the National Heroes Stadium. According to sports minister Chishimba Kambwili, who toured the 60,000-seater stadium under construction, the government, in conjunction with Football Association of Zambia, will organise a four-nation tournament to officially open the stadium. The ultra-modern stadium, which will be handed over to the Zambian government on October 15, will host the tournament with two teams from North Africa and one from southern Africa. He said the tournament would take place on a FIFA calendar date so that all the professionals feature for Zambia. Kambwili explained that although the tournament was meant to officially open the National Heroes Stadium, some games would be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. "We are going to organise a four-nation tournament to officially open the stadium. We are looking at putting it on a FIFA-friendly day so that we can attract good teams from across Africa. The discussion I had with Kalusha Bwalya was that try and get two teams from North Africa, one from southern and Zambia to make it four teams," Kambwili said. And Kambwili said he was happy with the workmanship by the contractors. He said he was excited that the stadium would be handed over two months before schedule. Kambwili said only the access road and car park remained to be work on by his ministry and the works and supply ministry. And Shanghai Construction marketing manager, Oscar Bell, explained that the turf which had been imported from Japan would be at its best during the rainy season as water was a challenge at the moment. He explained that apart from water, the contractors had challenges with electricity. But Kambwili said he would have a meeting with the water and sewerage company officers as well as Zesco on Monday to sort out the water and power problems.
