Zamfara farmers solicit more govt. support The Zamfara chapter of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has called on both the state and the federal governments to redouble their support to farming activities. The state Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Shehu Buwai, made the call on Wednesday in Gusau in an interview. Buwai said that in spite of the support given to farmers by both federal and state governments, they still needed additional support. He said that if farmers could get fertiliser, seeds, agro-chemicals and other agricultural inputs on time, it would enhance their productivity and contribute in achieving the Federal Governments food sufficiency goal. While commending both the federal and state governments for selling fertiliser, seeds and agro-chemicals to farmers in the state at subsidised rates, he urged them to give priority to farming activity. He also advised farmers to utilise the inputs judiciously, saying that it was the only way to contribute toward achieving the goal of the governments agricultural transformation agenda. He further urged them to ensure unity among themselves and continue to cooperate with the association in order to achieve its set objectives
