Zanella Restaurant is fairly new and so fantastic that I just had to post this review I wrote for Tripadvisor for all my FB friends (and Family): Chef Kris Zanella has created a menu that wows starting with the appetizers, soups and salads. The fried eggplant (aubergine) chips come with a dip of pure honey and it knocked our socks off. His shrimp in ajillo, sauteed in olive oil and spiced with loads of garlic, herbs and redpepper flakes is the best shellfish plate I have had anywhere in Bolivia. If you order it, be sure to mop up the sauce with slices of bread! The cold gazpaco for hot tropical days and nights in Santa Cruz is a winner as is the zapallo soup with ginger. Now for the paella. It is the real deal cooked to perfection, addicting, slightly crunchy on the bottom and each addition of seafood cooked exactly right....not chewy, better than any other paella in the city of Santa Cruz. Oxtails in gravy (rabo) unbelievably delicious! Now for the seven dessert offerings. Off the scale crazy wonderful! (I especially love the white chocolate strawberry concoction), but they are all worth trying with not a bad selection in the group! We have eaten there a total of 5 times and have not a single complaint! A full bar with an excellent wine selection complements the simple dining room and detailled attention. The chef and his wife, Carolina, bend over backwards to make you feel at home and see that you are well taken care of. (They do well for dinner parties...they served 28 for my birthday and all found it to be marvelous.) There are many many moreabulous menu options and we plan to return again and again to try them all. Dont miss this dynamite new eatery! Note: The chef is Italian and obtained his culinary skills during many years in Spain. So his menu offers both cuisines.
