Zechariah 14 will be the final chapter of Zechariah. God would - TopicsExpress

Zechariah 14 will be the final chapter of Zechariah. God would hammer down some final detail regarding the day of the Lord. There is a dichotomy of description here; one, a “forthtelling” of suffering and a call for repentance (12; 14:1-2) and second, a “foretelling” of redemption through Christ (12:10; 13:7-9) and a promise of His coming again (14:3-11). This passage must be understood through the lens of suffering. There is no question Judah/Jerusalem will be punished for their sins. The passage describes this in detail: city captured, houses plundered, women ravished, and half of the city exiled. (v.1-2) You see this destruction of Judah/Jerusalem in Daniel 1:1-2. But there is a “Great Deliverance” to behold. We see the “Great Deliverer” bring a Spirit of grace and supplication (12:10), but that’s not all, He will also establish His kingdom. There will be a day of battle, “Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle.” (v.3) Furthermore, He will bring a “unique day” where there is no day or night (v.6) and “living waters” will flow from Jerusalem (v.8). This would be reiterated by the words of John in Revelations 21:22-24 and 22:1-5; there will be waters of life and the Lamb to light the way. Those who were against God’s people who fall under a great pestilence. There is no way around the description: rot of flesh on their feet, eye sockets, and tongues. (v.12) Where there is great deliverance for those who worship the King, there will be a great punishment on those who reject Him. (vv.12-20) There is a great sense of urgency as I have read through Zechariah. I implore you to seek Christ with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. Leave nothing in reserve and be daring with the Gospel. Too many times you worry about the product (power of the Gospel) and forget the placement (sharing the Gospel). If left unshared and hidden, the word of God is left powerless. In saying that, please pray for my father-in-law who said to me, “I have the knowledge, but not the faith to believe.” I yearn for his salvation. Pray for the Spirit’s conviction, his heart’s surrender, and mouth’s confession. #godlylegacy “Let eloquence be flung to the dogs rather than souls be lost. What we want is to win souls. They are not won by flowery speeches.” –Charles H. Spurgeon
