Zelda la Grange, Nelson Mandelas personal assistant for 19 years - TopicsExpress

Zelda la Grange, Nelson Mandelas personal assistant for 19 years during his time as South Africas president and later a global statesman, has hit out at the governments handling of the public events around his death as chaos and a disgrace. Miss La Grange said she and other members of Mr Mandelas household were forced to chase information 24 hours a day after his death in December about how his friends and family could attend his funeral, memorial service and lying-in-state. She condemned the tight security that left the Soweto stadium where the memorial service was held half-empty and led to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Sir Richard Branson and former UN chief Kofi Annan being shut out of the VIP section. She also criticised the hiring of a fake sign language interpreter who turned out to be a dangerous schizophrenic. She said that given the anti-apartheid activists 27-year imprisonment and subsequent leadership of South Africa, we could have got it right – I just dont think we did the best we could.
