Zhanna Konetchy Political Page Saw a post in Heritage Foundation today: “’There will be war’—When You See The Latest Russian Propaganda, You’ll Be Disgusted By Their Shameless Actions. “ I’m getting really disgusted....with the Western media and politician’s propaganda—pushing the world to the WW3 and effectively convincing many people that Russia is provocateur and wants war. What I see now in the Western media is worse then it was during the Cold War. During the Cold War Americans hated socialists—no matter what nationality they were: Russians, Ukrainians, German, Polish, Check, etc. Now Western media does not hate socialists any more —they are effectively were renamed into liberals—and switched ideological hate to the nationalistic hate. Here I wanted to introduce one of the episodes of documentary: “The Unknown War, Episode 3, The Siege of Leningrad” I also wanted to let you know, that Russian people REMEMBER this war very well and generations who were born many years after do not forget. Every family in Russia had someone killed in that war; everyone suffered during the war greater then under Stalin’s regime. It was a long, hard four years for everyone. Notice: I do not romanticize about and do not make any excuses for Stalin’s regime. And I despise Lenin even greater than Stalin. Do you really believe that people who suffered through this would not remember what tragedy a war is and would like to start another war which would be certainly fought on their territory? My grandma’s relative, Valentina, lived under the siege of Leningrad. She lived with her infant daughter in the apartment on the main St. Petersburg street—Nevsky Ave., right above the grocery store. She told they were lucky that they had water in the basement dripping from the pipes and they did not have to go to the river to collect it. They did not have tea— they would drink hot water to keep themselves a little warmer. During the first winter she was already almost dying of starvation. When the “Road of Life” was opened Valentina’s neighbor crawled on her knees (she could not walk from weakness) to tell Valentina to go downstairs where they were giving food at the grocery store. Valentina picked up her infant daughter and her ration cards and went downstairs. What she saw was horrible. People were stampeding the food line and Valentina was afraid to enter that line, because she was too week and she was afraid to die together with her daughter if she would fall. Some young girl, a volunteer soldier from Siberia, approached Valentina and asked her to give her ration cards so she could get food for Valentina and her daughter. Valentina did not know what to do: give her card —it was all she had to receive the food, to lose the cards was certain death, to go to the line herself also death: she trusted to give cards to this young girl. Shortly after this girl came back with the bag fool of food, took Valentina and her daughter and basically “carried” them upstairs in their apartment. She told them do not open door to anybody (because there were looters) and she would come for them in a few days to evacuate them. Valentina opened the bag and was overwhelmed with the amount of food, there was even chocolate. She did not know that she had to be careful and should not eat too much after long starvation. She got sick and was lucky indeed that this young Siberian girl came at the same day and put them on the trucks that were going over the lake. Valentina told that they were going under constant bombing, but she was so sick, that did not care. Then they put Valentina and her daughter on the train to go to Ural region. And everyone on the train started bringing them food as soon as they’ve heard that they were from Leningrad. She felt sorry that she never found out who this young girl was and what was her name.
