Zoe Power “When women get together, they are unstoppable, just saying!” I had the opportunity to see Rachel Zoe rachelzoe at the Business Chicks businesschicks.au event yesterday, sitting with the beautiful Emma Isaccs in a room of approximately 500 fashionably dressed women at the Atlantic, Docklands. As I am passionate about fashion and style, I have always been a fan of Rachel and her show The Rachel Zoe Project. It was therefore a memorable occasion to see the women up close and personal, sharing her views about her career and personal life. What makes Rachel special is not only her keen eye for style and everything that she has achieved, but also her incredible down to earth attitude, her honesty, her sense of humour and most importantly the fact that she is so incredibly NICE – and it’s real. I enjoyed watching her reality show on TV because she showed not only the glamorous side to working as a stylist with some of Americas most well known celebrities, but also the not so glamorous side. Rachel talked about the challenges of owning a business and the tricky side to managing people that most women who own a business relate to, especially when you try to be a nice person in business. Rachel has built an empire through hard work and dedication, values which are intrinsic to success – “when I was young I was hungry! I didn’t think anyone owed me anything….. never say ‘that’s not my job’, any piece of work is another opportunity to learn, and to shine”. I think this is a very important message to all aspiring young fashionistas and budding entrepreneurs to be, especially in a fast paced world with a need for instant gratification. The other qualities that I admire about Rachel is that despite showing her sensitive and emotional side, she is incredibly driven and resilient. She has been criticized and scrutinized by the paparazzi and the media more than ever, but has continued to rise about it to prove that you can have it all- a successful career, a loving relationship (she has been married to her business partner and love of her life Roger “for ever”) a family and also continue to be a lovely person despite the temptations to fight back at the many unpleasant reviews made about her. Rachel joked “hurry up Karma” but you know that she honestly wants the best for people and believes in remaining true to who you are. Her most important piece of advise is to follow your intuition “my gut takes me to the place I should be. As women we should follow our gut, always.” The stage was set with a backdrop of fresh floral pink and pretty flowers by Kate Hill and adorned with a striking illustration of Rachel by Megan Hess, also presented to Rachel as a parting gift. Thank you so much Emma Isaacs for bringing Rachel to Australia, and for giving us inspiration to be the best that we can be and to shine like a bright star.
