Zoeys surgeon just called. They had just closed her up and her knee was worse than we had originally thought. Her ACL was totally blown and had the beginnings of arthritic bone growth. Her injury was most likely a result of a traumatic injury from hard play, a violent fall, etc. It may have started out as a partial tear, but since Zoey remained stoic and didnt exhibit pain or limping, etc.until a month or so ago when I first saw her limping and having trouble going up stairs, that didnt help matters. That and our pheasant hunting outing in October when she called it quits after a few drives up and down the game fields. Saying that, the vet said that her meniscus bone was in decent shape and that she responded well to her stabilization surgery and has good range of motion with the repair. Post surgery prognosis is the same, but maybe for a longer period of time: 4-6 months at a minimum of leash walking. monitored exercise, etc. Her other knee is stable, but not 100% and could prove to be an issue in the future. By all means, it could have been worse, but I didnt expect it to be as bad as it was. I am so glad I chose to take action after only 15 days of her first diagnosis. Please keep my little pup in your prayers. I will pick up my girl tomorrow afternoon. Our journey begins!
