Zombie Cat... (Just something that came to an end this weekend) We have our life back... 3 1/2 weeks ago I was out feeding the cats and another stray was meowing, In the dark shadows I thought it was a cheshire with a pug face, The next afternoon Laticia comes in scarred of a injured cat out back, The cat I saw and thought was a cheshire, in daylight, can see it has a growth on its face, faaaaaaaarrrrrrkn ugly scrawney stinking thing I could not get close to. The growth gave every breath a gurgle that would accompany any Zombie horror movie. I rang the SPCA and when I described the cat they asked if it was near Fitzroy Primary School? they have been trying to catch it for some time, they dropped of a cage and food and a trap, I caught our 2 cats several times in 3 weeks but Zombie appeared to just sit in his spot, with the cat food now inside it still wasnt going anywhere near the trap. one afternoon when going out I put the cat plate out and by the time I walked around the house he was eating, moved the plate into the trap, not interested, but got one of ours again. We did finally catch a different stray and SPCA came and took it away and are nursing it back to health, then while out in the shed for a while I come in put the jug on and I hear the laboured breathing, turn around and here he is sitting on my couch... faaaaaaaarrrrrrk... was my first few thoughts, took a photo, put a leather glove on grabbed the cage but couldnt get close enough, he took off... the back door was now shut, Luckily he was on the blanket, carrying it at arms length to the washing machine double wash and detergent, it stunk, couldnt tell the girl the Zombie was on the couch (she was freaked out enough already) we were under seige... I managed to spot him outside the back door and videoed the sad state of Zombie, I went to the SPCA office and asked if there was something else we could do or Im goin to get a gun myself and put the poor bugger out of his misery, You cant do that, and theres nothing that can be done till it gets trapped, I said it started to come inside and was on my couch, They said I could have shut the door to trap it inside, I asked where she lived and Ill throw it in her lounge and lock the door...lol ... so I showed them the video of it and how bad he is, they then understood our dilemma and lent me a net. Sunday afternoon he went to the neighbours back yard and I caught him, But, getting a feral cat from a net to a cage is another story, the net and cage are not made to make the job easy, and he got away...faaaaaaaarrrrrrk, I made a dive to make any rugby player proud and got him in the net again, got my girl to bring a towel to cover him up, to calm him and hide his disfigured cancer riddled face out of her view, Laticia was awesome, she got the cage, towel, helped find the emergency SPCA number, told them to get there asap as half its face was gone, help was on the way... I noticed a neighbour accross the road and waved him over, to help get it into a cage, he wasnt interested in getting a scratch or bite from this thing so held the net down over it waiting for the emergency SPCA worker to get there, my girl even brought me a well needed beer (needed something stronger though), patting him through the towel calmed him down and we got him in the cage and the SPCA was off to a vet thank faaaaaaaarrrrrrk... we and the cats have our home back for now what a relief, doors open cat plates outside again, The pics are too graphic I wont post the clear ones, you get enough from the few below, Thanks to the SPCA they were able to respond so quick when needed...
