Zombie Nightmare (1987) IMDB Rating: 2.1 Dir:Jack Bravman (Night of the Dribbler) Have you ever had the hankering to see a film about voodoo and the undead featuring a zombie dressed as a Beer league softball player, Played by a washed up Butt-rocker ? Well then folks you are in luck and your needs have been fulfilled with this 1987 schlock fest. The film centers on Jon Mikl Thors (Rock n Roll Nightmare) character Tony, A buffed out good ol boy and local softball hero after he is run down by a group of punk teens out for a joyride. Following his premature death his mother cashes in a favor from a local Voodoo Priestess who then brings her son back to life. The catch being that Tony will not be himself, In fact he will return as a cheesy looking zombie who will only stick around until he avenges his death and murders each of the kids involved in his surmise. From this point on we follow zombie Tony as he tracks down each of his assailants and disposes of them all in rather boring and un creative ways , mostly neck snapping with the exception of one impaling via baseball bat while rescuing a would be rape victim. All while Detective Adam West (Yes, Family Guys Mayor West) is on the case. This may sound like a fun or at least So bad its good enough concept for a film but sadly it falls flat and we just see a boring lumbering paced film with little to no surprises or note worthy moments, just bland much like the appearance of our titular sweat pants dawning zombie. This film is worth a watch if you really are a fan of the lamest of the lame in cinema and surprisingly this film even managed to get itself the MST3K treatment and my advice is if you want to be entertained take in that version instead as the commentary would be its only saving grace. Zombie Nightmare is an entry in the small sub-genre of Metal horror flicks along the likes of Hard rock zombies Rock n Roll Nightmare and to an extent Black Roses. This niche sub genre is not exactly known for its classics and this film is no exception. Much like when I first viewed this film as a child the cover art is the most memorable part of the film experience in whole. Skip it , Unless you are a Zombie movie completionists and even then this one serves no real purpose nor appeal other than that, Definitely a dud. Sad because the concept of a zombie softball player walking around in threatening sweats just screams cult classic potential....Am I right?
