Zubin Mehta concert politically motivated: Geelani ‘Kashmiris Treat Tourists As Valued Guests’ GK NEWS NETWORK SmallerDefaultLarger Srinagar, Sep 6: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Friday said that Kashmiris don’t nurture any sort of grudge against any tourist and always treat them as their valued guests. Briefing the international media about the ground realities in Jammu and Kashmir, Geelani said; “New Delhi has unleashed a propaganda campaign in a bid to mislead international community. People of Kashmir with their sincere heart have always been greeting the tourists and visiting personalities. We don’t nurture any sort of grudge against any tourist and we always treat them as our valuable guests. Nor have we any enmity with a particular person. But I would like to clarify that Zubin Mehta’s musical concert is politically motivated than being a cultural show. India under this garb intends to convey a distorted picture of ground realities in Kashmir.” A Hurriyat (G) spokesman said media persons from various countries, who are in Kashmir in connection with Zubin Mehta concert, thronged Geelani’s Hyderpora residence on Friday and sought his views on various issues. He said Geelani briefed the visiting media persons about the grim situation prevailing in Kashmir. “Our nation is in a state of mourning as Delhi has turned down our demand to handover mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guru,” Geelani said. “When entire nation is protesting against the forced disappearance of more than 10000 youth and the innocents killed in Markundal and Gool, New Delhi in collaboration with Germany is portraying the situation as per their ploy as if there is no problem.” Speaking to New York Times, Geelani said; “Although European Union supports our cause for right to self-determination, however contrary to this German government does not understand its responsibility.” Geelani alleged that the armed forces are involved in massacre of innocent people. Referring to the brutal killing of five Europeans by Al-Faran, Geelani said, “It is sufficient proof about the authoritarian approach of India, and Germany could have easily assessed the grim situation and human rights abuses in Kashmir. Commenting on the search operations and blockades, Geelani said the authorities in order to make the show a success, have opted for coercive measures and unjustified restrictions. “The coercion and repressive measures stand witness to the fact that people of Jammu and Kashmir neither accept the forced control and nor would they call off their struggle. The musical concert has been organized for a selected gathering but it has inflicted agonies and miseries on common Kashmiris.” Speaking to the BBC correspondent, Geelani said the government of India with its arrogance of power has failed to suppress freedom spirit of Kashmiris. “I would like to convey to the authorities that now our young generation has devoted itself to the precious cause and are more committed than ever before. Youth won’t give up their just demand for right to self-determination,” he said.
