Zvemumagitare part 12 NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR ZIMBO STYLE PRAISE&WORSHIP Back in the late 90s in Fig church in Mabvuku,as we were about to start the P/worship session,the guest speaker arrived,as soon as she came in one of our singers came to me in a panic mode&said to meI didnt know that the guest speaker is an American,so what are we going to do about the songs we selected?i replied nothing&wanted to know why she was asking,she said since the speaker was american she was suggesting we change the song list&put Western music tobvisa mseve ne jit,i asked her kuti: 1:Do Americans in America change their song lists because mapinda ma Africans?...No,so why should we be ashamed of music kunge inonyadzisira&change our song list kana ivo vapinda? 2:As as American visitor to Zimbabwe dont you think she is also curious about how we praise the lord the Zimbo way,how we sing our shona&Ndebele songs,how we dance to our mseve etc. So as the music leader i refused to change the song list tikashudha mseve ne jiti rough,pakatambiwa zvisingaite as usual,paive nema youths vaive ne energy pazvinhu zvaMwari who would dance zvakaipa When it was time for the guest speaker to preach,she took her time talking about how she had enjoyed our Zimbo praise&worship,she said it was her first time to experience proper African praise&worship&even asked the pastor if he would allow her to visit our church everytime she visits Zim,even if she will not preach,but just for the praise&worship,she was so so impressed by the music,the dances& the energy,how almost everybody participates fully esp pakutamba apa. So i was thinking kuti saka pese apa she was coming to Zim but asingasangane ne African P/worship sei iye arimu Africa macho?which means everytime people heard she was from Usa they would try to impress her vonyara kuridza music yavo chaiyo vochinja. I heard of one church p/worship team in Harare that refuses to play Shona&Ndebele songs,they say they are less sophisticated,the music dosent have ma jerks&it has simple 1.4.5 chords,.....ok,if you want the songs sophisticated who is going to come&sophisticate them for you?after all do they need the sophistication in the first place?ingawani Jamaicans conquered the world ne Reggae music ine 2 or 3 chords chete wani,apa achikwira pa stage pabva ma Americans vanga vachiridza mazi jazz chords akapenga nema jerks,iye anokwira pa stage ,ozunza ma deadlocks ake without shame, oridza 2chords dzake with confidence,attitude&Pride,so we just need to be proud of who we are&what we have. We are also denying our westerm visitors the Africam experience,today se sunday kudai pakaita ma visitors from the wetern world let them feel they are in Africa,dont try to prove to them kuti zvenyu tozvigonawo,you will never beat anyone pa zvinhu zvake,there is nothing wrong with our praise&worship material.
