___Zanskar on boil again, PDP blames NC____ With Muslim minority facing socialboycott from the Buddhist community in Zanskar, leaders from both opposition and separatist camps blamed the government for being negligent in this regard. Separatists and main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in unison blamed the government for failing to address the problems being faced by the minority community in the region which paves the way to widen thegap between the two communities. Calling the National Conference as ‘Ostrich government’, the PDP Spokesperson, Nayeem Akhter said that they are deliberately hiding themselves rather than addressing the issues of the people. He said that government should address the issue betweenthe two communities politically at earliest so that gap between the two communities should be bridged. “NC behaves like an ostrich and doesn’t want to see the problems of people. There is need to address the issue between the people of Zanskar politically and initiatives should be taken to bridge the gap between the two communities,” he said. Akhter further added that PDP is ready to provide helping hand to people of the region as they have done it in past as well. “When the tensions between the two communities erupted in September last year, it was only Mehbooba Mufti, who went to thepeople of Zanskar. PDP is again ready today for every possible help which will solve the problemsbetween the two communities,” he added. Chairman, Hurriyat Conference (G),Syed Ali Geelani said that it is the negligence of government that the Muslim community is facing such problems in Zanskar. He claimed that the administrators in the region are not cooperating with the Muslims and support the Buddhist community. “The administrators in the region should provide full security to the minority community but it is unfortunate that they support the Buddhists thus paving a way for the minority community to migrate from Zanskar region. Government must take notice of what is going on in the region,” he added. However, senior National Conference (NC) leader and Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that it is a serious issueif Muslims in the region are facingsocial boycott as the state is known for its communal harmonyin the whole country. “It is a serious issue if Muslims in the Zanskar are facing social boycott from the Buddhist community because when communal tensions were seen everywhere inthe country in the year 1947, J&K was the only state where various religious communities were living in peace and harmony,’” he said. Sagar further said that “as a responsible government, it is our duty to solve all the issues and check out the anti-social elements,” he added.
