Car chief Greg Ebert has been named to the role of head wrench, promoted to temporarily replace Todd Parrott beginning this weekend at Martinsville. Parrott has entered NASCARs Road To Recovery program after failing a drug test, causing an indefinite suspension last week and has officially been released from the team. Ebert has four races to earn the job and will be reevaluated after the season. Driver Aric Almirola has already worked extensively with Ebert; hes been car chief, the past two seasons for RPMs No. 43 and has been with the organization since its inception. Beginning his career with Roush Fenway Racing, back in 2001 he has over a decade of Sprint Cup experience but will be crew chiefing for the first time this Sunday. We are confident in Gregs leadership abilities and we will give him the resources he needs to be successful, explained Sammy Johns, RPMs Vice President of Operations and Competition in a statement. He is very familiar with our race program and gives us a more seamless transition. More importantly, he gives Aric the best opportunity to finish the season strong. Almirola, currently a career-best 18th in the standings has one top-5 and six top-10 finishes this season. Hed been working with Parrott over the last year-plus, one of the sports most successful crew chiefs. Holding a championship to his name, paired with Dale Jarrett in 1999 Parrott spent his most successful years at the helm of the No. 88 car and Robert Yates Racing. From 1996-2001, the duo won 24 times, captured two Daytona 500s and finished in the top 5 in points all six years. Recently, hed bounced around the Ford camp before landing with RPM. Sauter Extends With Thorsport, Gets New Primary Sponsor Truck Series veteran Johnny Sauter, a three-time winner with Thorsport Racing this season is sticking with his program over the long-term. Extending his contract through 2015, his No. 98 Toyota team Monday announced theyd picked up a new major sponsor. Nextant Aerospace, a world leader in business aircraft remanufacturing, announced theyll back the team for 12 races a year as primary in a two-year deal that starts this coming February at Daytona. Sponsoring ThorSport is more than just a business tie-up: were both passionate about innovative technology - and about keeping ahead of the competition, said Nextant President Sean McGeough in announcing the partnership. Now, were backing them on the racetrack just as we back their new Nextant 400XTi jet wherever they fly. Thorsport, based in Ohio is thrilled to partner with an Ohio-based company to help boost their race program over the long-term. With the paint scheme unveiled yesterday in Las Vegas, part of the Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition its clear Nextant is serious about hitting the ground running with their NASCAR marketing. It makes perfect sense, added Duke Thorson, Thorsport Racing owner in a statement. Two Ohio-based companies both focused on building their businesses, selling aircraft, and winning in their respective industries. Together, we will build brand identity for Nextant Aerospace in the motorsports world while continuing to run for championships. Thorsport is in strong position to win the title this year, with Matt Crafton in their No. 88 Toyota as he leads the points with four races remaining. Sauter, sixth in the standings this year holds victories at Daytona, Talladega, and Martinsville while totaling 11 top-10 finishes in 18 starts. News N Notes - Talladega became the first race in the Chase for the Sprint Cup to post a year-to-year decline in viewership. Posting a 3.1 U.S. Nielsen rating, its three percent below last years 3.2 and the least-watched Dega event since NASCARs TV contracts went fully national, in 2001. 4.9 million viewers tuned in to see Jamie McMurray lead a mostly single-file finish to the checkered flag. - A number of teams went through the paces in Day 1 of a three-day test at Texas Motor Speedway. Cup drivers attending include Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Jeff Burton, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Clint Bowyer, Martin Truex, Jr., Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Kasey Kahne, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Paul Menard and Kevin Harvick. 10 of the 13 Chase drivers are here participating; only Ryan Newman, Joey Logano, and Kurt Busch are not at the track. The wind tunnel session follows an on-track test NASCAR did last week at Charlotte Motor Speedway. All three manufacturers were represented in both sessions. NASCAR is looking at aerodynamic changes to help cars race closer together at the 1.5-mile style race tracks. Six teams took part in the on-track test Oct. 14 at Charlotte. Among changes gaining momentum is to eliminate the minimum ride height requirement for next season. Theres also some support for a larger spoiler. Were on the road to figuring out a few things that we could do for the 14 season, said Gene Stefanyshyn, NASCAR vice president of innovation and racing development. Stefanyshyn said that officials likely would determine this week if they would need additional on-track testing before making changes for next season.(Motor Racing Network)(10-23-2013) • Todd Parrot suspended by NASCAR UPDATES - Released by RPM, Comments: Todd Parrott, a crew member in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (#43 team crew chief), has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning bodys Substance Abuse Policy. On Oct. 17, Parrott was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 19 (violation of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy) of the 2013 NASCAR Rule Book.(NASCAR)(10-17-2013) UPDATE: Upon notification today that employee Todd Parrott had violated NASCARs Substance Abuse Policy, Richard Petty Motorsports fully supports his indefinite suspension from NASCAR. Sammy Johns, Vice President of Operations and Competition, will handle crew chief duties on the #43 Ford this weekend at Talladega. He will also handle these duties on an interim basis until further notice. We have an expectation of all RPM employees to conduct themselves at the highest level of professionalism and within the competitive confines as set forth by NASCAR, said Johns. We are very disappointed that one of our employees did not meet our expectations and we completely support NASCAR, their policies and final decisions when it comes to the substance abuse policy.(RPM)(10-17-2013) UPDATE 2: Todd Parrott was released from Richard Petty Motorsports on Monday for violating NASCARs substance-abuse policy. The 19-year veteran crew chief won the 1999 Sprint Cup championship with Dale Jarrett and most recently oversaw the #43 Ford team and driver Aric Almirola. Parrott has been with RPM since 2010. He has 31 Sprint Cup wins. Parrott has already submitted his application for NASCARs Road to Recovery program. Greg Ebert will take over as the interim crew chief for Aric Almirolas team.(Fox Sports)(10-22-2013) UPDATE 3: Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) announced Greg Ebert will serve as the interim crew chief for the #43 Ford and driver Aric Almirola starting this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Ebert will fulfill this role on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. Ebert has served in the role of car chief of the #43 Ford for the past two seasons and has been a car chief with RPM since its inception. Before joining RPM, Ebert spent nine years at Roush Fenway Racing serving the last five of those seasons as the car chief for Matt Kenseth. Ebert replaces Todd Parrott who is no longer with the organization.(RPM)(10-22-2013) UPDATE 4: (The dismissal) was just automatic, Richard Petty told reporters Tuesday afternoon during an appearance at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. When he done what he did, he did his own thing. All weve done is said, This is the way its got to be. Petty said he was really shocked when Parrott failed a drug test and said he never saw the crew chief acting suspiciously. But because drivers and crew members put their lives on the line every weekend, Petty said, the team took a zero-tolerance approach to Parrotts offense. One hundred percent aint good enough, so if anyone breaks the rule, there aint no room in our organization for that, Petty said. (USA Today) AND Crew chief Todd Parrott said Tuesday night on Motor Racing Networks NASCAR Live that hes sorry for his actions, which caused him to violate NASCARs Substance Abuse Policy and lose his job at Richard Petty Motorsports. I was in a dark moment and it happened, Parrott told host Eli Gold. Parrott declined to reveal what banned substance he took. NASCAR indefinitely suspended him Thursday. Gold asked Parrott during NASCAR Live if it was a long-time issue or something that happened that caused Parrott to be suspended. Its just something that happened and my number came up, Parrott said. Not a whole lot I can say. I feel bad about it, and Im sorry for it and Im ready to move on. Parrott said hes scheduled to meet with a counselor Wednesday to begin NASCARs Road to Recovery program. I have the support of my family and a lot of friends in the garage to go down this path, he said. This is the third year the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program - created in 2004 and now executed by Rev Racing - has partnered with Hampton. The NASCAR D4D program is designed to identify and train young female and diverse drivers at the grassroots level who demonstrate necessary talent to climb the ranks within the motorsport industries. The drivers, who represent 12 U.S. states and Mexico and come from a wide array of racing experience, took part in physical training assessment as well as driver evaluation on Rev Racings iRacing simulators Monday. Additionally, the programs partnership with Hampton will include presentations to the drivers by Dr. David Hunter from the universitys department of kinesiology on Tuesday, and by Dr. Kwame M. The drivers passed that test Tuesday with flying colors. After spending Monday at Hampton University with the fitness and iRacing evaluations, the drivers were eager to climb into one of three Late Models outfitted for the day-long practice session Tuesday. The team announced that current driver Aric Almirola will race a #41 Ford Fusion this weekend at the Martinsville Speedway, replacing the traditional #43. The#41 Ford will be Petty Blue and feature the likeness of 2014 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Maurice Petty, who raced the number during his driving career. The car was unveiled at the NASCAR Hall of Fame with Maurice Petty, his brother The King Richard Petty, Almirola and Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell all present. Winston Kelley, NASCAR Hall of Fame Executive Director, led the ceremonies in Charlotte, N.C. Maurice used the #41 for nine starts over his five-year driving career from 1960 to 1964. During that span, Petty entered 26 race events and finished in the top-10 in 16 of those. Maurice also earned seven top-five finishes with a best result of third in Spartanburg, S.C., in 1961. Maurice used the #41, staying consistent with the family heritage of racing subsequent numbers in the 40s. His father, Lee, raced the #42 and his brother, Richard, raced #43. Maurice was a driver, crew chief and a car owner, but is most known for being the engine builder for the familys operation. Maurice developed his craft in the engine room learning from his father, Lee, as he helped the family business win three championships with Lee. He then came into his own and was the horsepower behind the seven championships of Petty Enterprises and also behind 212 wins with drivers such as Richard Petty, Jim Paschal, Marvin Panch and Buddy Baker. Maurice was the crew chief for Pete Hamilton during the 1970 Daytona 500 which he won. Maurice later built engines in the Truck Series and played a role in the return of Dodge to the sport in 2001. Maurice is the third Petty to be elected into the NASCAR Hall of Fame following his father and brother. He is also the first to enter under the merits as an engine builder. Nextant and ThorSport Racing are proud of their shared Ohio heritage. For ThorSport, its geographical location far from the majority of other teams in North Carolina, makes the organizations NASCAR success including 12 wins, 110 top-5, 245 top-10 finishes and 14 pole awards, all the more significant. To make its competitive efforts more efficient, ThorSport Racing has acquired a Nextant 400XTi to support racing logistics. The truck was unveiled today, in Las Vegas, Nevada at The Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition. One of the premier aviation events of the year, the partnership between Nextant Aerospace and TSR was introduced to 25,000 attendees, over 100 journalists and more than 45 media partners. The truck will make its on-track debut February 21, 2014 at Daytona International Speedway, where Sauter is the defending race winner.(See an image on the #98 team paint schemes page)(ThorSport Racing PR)(10-21-2013 ___________________________________________________________ A R C A (Automobile Racing Club of America) ___________________________________________________________ Courtesy of ARCA arcaracing ARCA weekly notebook: Will Kimmel enters Halloween 200; Kwasniewski wins K&N Series title News and notes around the ARCA racing world: arcaracing/news.php?contentid=16676 ___________________________________________________________ N A S C A R * C A N A D I A N * T I R E * S E R I E S localracing.nascar/news/6 ___________________________________________________________ Local racer Ryley Seibert completes rookie season with a strong finish Welcome to Williams Lake On September 22, 2013 the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series (NCATS) 2013 season came to a close at Karwatha Speedway in Fraserville, Ontario.
