a Feather Duster worm from the family Sabellidae, this one probably Anamobaea oerstedi, the Split-crown Feather Duster, tube 2.5cm, radioles 7cm, ~15 depth off Sanctuary Caye, Belize ~ this is a marine tube worm that anchors itself to the rock and secretes around itself a mineral tube into which can retreat... when feeding, the feather-like fan-shaped radioles capture planktonic particles in the water column which are then passed down to the top of the tube to the worms mouth; the radioles also act as respiratory organs and are sometimes referred to as the worms gills
