a fan submission by Adrian Stormwing She shouldnt have been staying in this desert city, that much she knew. After her elimination from the tournament, there was nothing left for her here. Well that wasnt completely true. In the room next door, a young man -roughly three years older than her- rested. Or at least thats what one would expect from someone who had been fighting in a tournament for the past month or so. He was the reason she was staying. That odd Elemental who seemed to be searching for someone the shifter remembered from years ago. But that would be far to much of a coincidence. Two fighters, both searching for the same person, both winding up fighting in the same tournament. It couldnt be possible, that just three years before the woman, Sarah, had met Jason Prince, she had been a student alongside a young shape-shifter, helping the other girl to learn control of her wayward abilities. Time might flow differently between the worlds, but could the connection really exist? It was to much to think about in the stuffy room at the inn. Throwing the windows open, Arona allowed herself a hopeful glance towards the next door balcony. Of course hes not going to be there. Hes probably dead tired from his fight earlier... Arona thought mildly, annoyed at herself for thinking that hed put her over his well deserved rest. A sharp, cold breeze chose that moment to blow past her, making her shiver. How many times have I told you that you should cover up, before coming out here? A bemused voice asked from behind her, before a heavy coat fell over her shoulders. A slight blush crossed her cheeks, as she turned around. The torchlight couldnt have been worse if it tried, but she could see Jason -far to clearly for her liking- in her minds eye. She saw the red and brown hair, the red vest, the scars.... Everything shed seen on a daily basis for the past month. Probably as many times as Ive told you that coming here was my first exposure to the desert, and that I had no clue that these nights would be so infernally cold. She grinned in reply, Im presuming you cant sleep again? I dont blame you. How they expect anyone to sleep with these winds is beyond me. She added That would be why they expect you to keep your windows closed ...You did well today. I was a fool to doubt you when you said that you would win. Shows me not to listen to rumors about the reputations of other fighters Jason shrugged I cant lose. Not this late in the game. You know how badly I want to find her Of course. I also know that if my determination were half as strong as yours, wed be meeting in the final, not in the first round, and I wouldnt have been eliminated so early.. Stupid Arona sighed, clearly directing the last word at herself. Turning her back to Jason, Arona let her eyes wander over the layers of Obscura, then to the night sky. Its breath-taking, isnt it? Mm-hmm Arona sighed, half expecting Jason to continue the train of thought. So she was caught unawares when he said You know, you arent the only one who was curious about the past. You still havent told me how you came to meet Sarah Arona sighed. She should have known this was coming. You know, we mightnt even be talking about the same Sarah. We might be talking about two different worlds each having a version of the same person Humor me Arona resigned herself to telling the story. ...Fine. But dont get angry if my story disappoints check out the rest here at opalrhea.deviantart/#/art/Where-It-Began-338871000?_sid=6556fb84
