a few months after i left the british council in 2007, i took an active interest in robotics, responding to a challenge from my brother, who wanted to see what i could do. from scratch, i mounted a massive exhibition at the shangri-la plaza, gathering together various academic institutions who had strong curricular mechatronix programs merging computer science, electronics, and mechanical engineering, from elementary up to college. in the process, i met Mylene Abiva, indefatigable president of Felta Multi-Media, whose Lego Mindstorms products are at the core of robotics education here. her parents had been close friends of my parents, and it was great working closely with another power lady. been following her reports at the 2014 World Robot Olympiad in sochi, russia, where 47 countries are taking part, with only 24 medals at stake. so happy to hear that the philippine team, represented by dr yanga colleges inc, placed third in the college division, with the high school students winning the award for most creative robot. already she is laying the groundwork for WRO in cebu come 2016. onwards and ever upwards, mylene -- mabuhay ang pilipinas!
