a new deal has been reached by pacemco management and labor. the suspension of the cement plants operation is extended until february of 2015 , the time when the plant is expected to resume operation under a new management (?). what concerns most of surigao city residents is will it mean a return to the dark ages prior to the work stoppage of the plant? before april of this year, surigao del norte electric consumers were suffering from 7 to 8 hours service interruptions because the cement plant used to eat 4 megawatts of electricity thus depriving most electric consumers of uninterrupted electricity service when the local electric coop cut off pacemcos connection due to unpaid bills, we didnt have any of those irksome brownouts. surneco, meanwhile, forecast electricity supply shortfall and thought of buying 4 modular gensets costing 200 million php through a loan. in the interregnum, the nickel asia corporation put up a 1 billion php power plant in a barangay near the pacemco plantsite. another power plant is set to operate in davao which will supply surneco (the local electric coop) with 4 megawatts. all of these 2 power supply providers will be available by february next year. now will the beautiful members of the surneco board still insist on borrowing money to buy those gensets? if so, that, my friends, is proof of hanky panky going on in your board room.
