a new photo taken by @oceanholic_t! Sea stars are not fish as their nickname starfish suggests. They belong to a group of animals called Echinoderms, meaning spiny skin. They detect light with eyespots at the end of each arm. They feed by pushing its stomach out through its mouth and secreting enzymes that digest the preys soft body tissues. Sea stars often feed, and their body size depends on the amount of food they eat, not by their age. Regeneration will occur as long one fifth of its body remains intact.
