a not so healthy looking fox crossed the back lot suspected of having mange. the rumor mill started that just walking in the same area as the fox may have walked a domestic pet can catch the mange. I am not a vet but through extensive research in bing, google and yahoo, the mite that causes the mange has to be transmitted by direct contact not just walking near the area the suspect was in days before. if your domestic pet by chance catches the mange it can be easily treated by a vet and is not fatal.
