a pound of flesh.... now we are in for another uncalled for duel with the teachers. SRC under Sarah Serem and Cabinet secretary for Education professor Kaimenyi are piling pressure on TSC not to pay teachers their expected July salaries. on the surface it makes sense that they did not work for three weeks in July and so for those days they should not be paid. lets not argue that the teachers were on legal strike that was declared illegal later by the courts, lets also not talkof the return to work formula and other guarantees before the strike was called off. The MoE extended school term 2 and 3 and teachers will be expected to teach when they should be on school break. WILL THEY BE PAID OVERTIME? Will the MoE and TSC pay the teachers for the work already being done to catch up the extension hours of school to help kids recover? this will be the real drop of blood prof.! The govt should be magnanimous and create an environment where our disenfranchised children can learn and not drive a wedge between the kids and parents on one side and their teachers on the other... with out being tactful but this vengeful the govt efforts may be counterproductive. It is not necessary to provoke this war again!
