a small discussion yesterday i posted a video , talking about 360 defence and its application and effectiveness in a real life situation(in my eyes of course ) from a few discussions i had about that i wish to say the following 1.the name imi is used constantly to justify the technical approach to krav maga i regard this as not relevant to our days training -looking at the teachers who spread krav maga world wide we can see fundamental differences from one another eyal yanilovs krav maga does not look like haim gideons or haim zut,and richard duieb krav maga does not look like any of the mentioned who is right ? who is the source?not relevant.what is relevant is that the major principles r kept .naturally like in the progress of karate different teachers will have different approaches for many reasons ,one of the major ones will be their own physical abilities(eyal yanilov tends to finish many of his techniques with kicks, due to his long affective legs, haim gideon grapples more, richard duieb works a bit like in karate and so on) 2.a fighting system must evolve. the idea that we keep on doing things like decades ago is not only un intelligent, it can be even dangerous.we r not old traditional martial arts,we r reality based fighting , and as reality changes,we must change with it 3.there is no 100% proof fighting system.each system has its ups and downs ,strong suits and weak points.we need to identify where we r weak and to work making it stronger.krav maga became weak for example in the striking division, not only the striking it self but the foot work and the understanding.this i believe must be addressed 4.seeing the young generation of km , we see a phenomena that raised the mma scene in the world. modern fighters ,not compelled by any name or tradition, making krav maga a mixture between the major principles and their own experience(ran nakash, arik goldenberg, sharir richman and your humble servant) can any body say they r wrong?can we say that their students r less protected with knowledge when facing a real life situation?i think not to summarise-different approaches will always be around and everybody should be respected.imi will not save any one of us in a street fight . effective training and a strong mind set will stay safe oss
