a thought just to clear the air about IV.Sturm/JG 3 Fw 190A-8/R2s. the colourful markings were discontinued in mid-August 1944 then the two tone greys were standard the white rumpfband either faded away or painted over or new machines into the gruppe to replace losses - still R2s. depicted is pilot Hopfensitz in his Gelbe 19 when he shot down a B-17 but in turn received .50 cal fire from the same B-17 causing him to bail out and become POW on December 24, 1944. the losses surrounding the US 487th bg are incorrect as they lost much more than originally recorded when they were flying behind Allied lines and the Sturmgruppe surprised them.....more later on this battle
