about JANAPADAM MODERN TRAVELLING THEATRE REPERTORY :---About J A N A P A D A M JANAPADAM is a non-profit organization registered as Social and Cultural Society by Govt. of Andhra Pradesh working for last 29 years in the fields of Culture, Theatre, Literature, Social Justice and Social Change. Its’ Theatre Repertory JANAPADAM THEATRE REPERTORY is performing plays all over the state and in some other national and international theatre festivals. JANAPADAM Theatre Repertory is a modern touring theatre repertory working for last twenty eight years, based in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. JANAPADAM conducts Literary, Cultural, Music, Painting, Dance and Theatre workshops and performs plays throughout country. It is performing local, national and international plays in Telugu. JANAPADAM also working with and for different marginalized castes, communities, groups like tribals, dalits and minorities. JANAPADAM motivates people against social, economic, cultural, environmental, gender oppression through modern theatre. JANAPADAM performed 47 plays and trained 2,300 rural, tribal and urban youth in theatre arts. Its performances were witnessed by nearly 2,25,000 audiences. JANAPADAM also performed in national and international theatre festivals like National School of Drama’s International Theatre Festival, New Delhi (Bharath Rang Mahotsav), World Social Forum’s International Theatres Festival, Hyderabad, World Telugu Conference, Tirupathi etc. It’s chief functionary and founder – director SRINIVAS DENCHANALA is a well known poet, playwright., actor, Stage designer and Stage director who got Central Sangeet Natak Akademi’s “Junior Fellowship” Award and Potti Sri Ramulu Telugu University’s “Keerthi Puraskaram” Award. JANAPADAM performed plays throughout the state and in other states which include major productions like BALI (written by Girish Karnad), Kabeer (written by Bhishma Sahani); MOOGAVANI PILLANGAGROVI (an adaptation of Dr. Keshava Reddy’s Novel); DONGA SATTEIAH (an adaptation of Padmabhushan Habib Tanvir’s ‘Charandas Chor’) ; VOOREGIMPU (an adaptation of Padmabhushan Badal Sircar’s ‘Procession’) ; AADI SHAKTHI (rewritten by Srinivas Denchanala based on a popular dailt mythology ‘Shakthi Puranam’); MAAVANATE MAVARAJ (written by Srinivas Denchanala,a play about Gondi Tribals of Telangana, performed by Gondi Tribals and JANAPADAM artists); YADI MANE DALYA DE (written by Srinivas Denchanala a play about Lambadi tribals of Telangana); MATTIBANDI (Shudraka’s ‘Mrichchakatika’ in Telugu, translated by Srinivas Denchanala with V. Krishna., directed by S.Raghunandana); KALLU (written by Gollapudi Maruthi Rao); JAGANNATHA RATHA CHAKRALU (written by Haranatha Rao); AADI JAMBA PURANAM (improvised performance of dalit folk mythology). All the above plays were written / adapted / translated, designed and directed by SRINIVAS DENCHANLA. ****** With collaboration of Indira Gandhi National Open University and National School of Drama JANAPADAM is planning to start one year course, Diploma in Theatre Arts. (1) JANAPADAM performs local, national and international plays (experimental and socially meaningful plays) in Telugu all over Andhra Pradesh and in major cities of India. (2) JANAPADAM preserves and conserves the people’s performing arts, oral literatures such as all traditional and folk art forms in audio and visual and print media. (2) JANAPADAM rejuvenates, reinterpretes traditional, folk and tribal art forms and popularizes them by performing regularly with the original indigenous artists. (3) JANAPADAM performs International, National and Local plays and literature in regional languages for the benefit of regional peoples and regional cultures and languages. (4) JANAPADAM conducts national and regional theatre and literary festivals. (5) JANAPADAM encourages in different ways all the contemporary and experimental artists who experiments with new contents and forms and also who deal with contemporary social, caste, regional, cultural, environmental, gender, identity, tribal, children and other subaltern issues.
