after reading the story that May mahlangu pulled out of bafana bafana due to fatigue/tiredness, i couldnt help but felt i should voice my opinion around the story, since i know people are going react and possibly condemn the boy as unpatriotic. Well, Shakes Mashaba upon taking over bafana he made it clear that he is looking for player who will show patriotism to the nation, wear national team with pride and show commitment, he went further and say that any player who perform and show commitment will definitely be considered for national team and that no one own a spot in bafana. i must say, thats kind of foundation we needed, however the question is has Shakes lived up to words? well am not sure. Let me start by saying under no circumstance pulling out of national team is acceptable, there is no other way about it. however i must also acknowledge the fact that the national team need every player available, it is therefore important that those principle as alluded above is always prevalent when ever the national team is selected. May Mahlangu has been playing well in his swedish side, scoring goals and creating goals that got big team interested in him, which goes a long way in describing the caliber of player he is, however he has been overlooked dispite his fine form until only now, i mean that must have been frustrating for him. why was he not selected in the previous squad? why now? Look at Kamogelo mokotjo, the young men is one of the best creative middlefield in dutch erdivisive league, creative goals and putting fine performance game in and game out, he continue to be overlooked? i thought Mashaba said any player who perfom and show commitment will be called. Rowen Williams, has been putting fine form for his team, he has been understudy of Khune and he is one for the future, but continue to be overlooked for his understudy, for heaven sake how do you explain that? Siyabonga Mpotshane played one good game a walk straight to a national team. Tsepo Masilela is one of the best left back in the country at the moment, he has been putting great performance for Chiefs since the start of season winning him 4 man of the match accolades in the process, why is he overlooked? I am hell show that this players are frustrated about this situation and this in many ways reduce the spirit patriotism, my point is we will blame player for snabbing bafana whereas in actual fact bafana technical team is snabing players. I mean for coach to select player who are not playing at their club level, and other who are not registered and to even went as far as saying he will not stop selecting them must be frustrating for those player who are putting fine performance for their clubs but continue to be overlooked. before we judge players for unpatriotic behavior, perhaps we must ask ourselves if those who are selecting have shown consistency and are fair.
