Over the next few years, the Planning Division will be responsible for undertaking a major update to the General Plan and 14 Community Plans, developing entirely new Renewable Energy and Health and Wellness Plans, as well as numerous other strategic initiatives in support of the Countywide Vision. Planner Trainee is the entry level position into the professional planner series and, under training conditions, performs a wide variety of land use planning involving urban, regional, and environmental planning disciplines. Essential duties include researching and reviewing technical reports, maps, and plans; compiling data for planning projects; and responding to public inquiries regarding land use regulations. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 1) Planner Trainees I serve under trainee conditions and are eligible for promotion to Planner I ($53,165 - $67,891 annually) upon successful completion of a training program and receipt of a satisfactory work performance evaluation. Incumbents must promote within 12 months or be terminated. 2) Travel throughout the county is required. A valid California Class C driver license is required at time of appointment. Employees in this class may be required to use personal vehicles and show proof of automobile liability insurance. Mileage reimbursement is available. 3) Some positions in this classification may be assigned to a schedule of less than full time (80 hours) per two-week pay period. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Planning, Environmental Science, Landscape Architecture, Geography, Public or Business Administration or a related field. A list of coursework must be submitted with the application if no degree is indicated in one of the specified fields.
