Also referred to as the City of Long Beach Harbor Department, the Port is governed by a five-member Board of Harbor Commissioners, and day to day operations are managed by the Executive Director. Operations are organized into five functional areas: Executive Management, Finance and Administration, Trade Relations and Port Operations, Engineering, and Environmental Affairs and Planning. The Port employs approximately 480 full-time staff and generates annual operating revenues in excess of $375 million. The Port is a recognized environmental leader, with award-winning environmental programs such as the Green Port Policy. About the Position: The Port of Long Beach has an opening in its Human Resources Division for the position of Human Resources Intern. This part-time position will assist the Senior Human Resources Representatives with general human resources tasks, including recruiting, development of position descriptions, and working with other HR staffers as assigned. The principal responsibility of this position will be to support the Human Resources Divisions recruitment section. The successful candidate will possess a general understanding of the theories and principles of Human Resources best practices, excellent written/verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. He or she is also: • proactive • customer-oriented • eager and able to learn quickly • effective in working with others • able to maintain confidentiality on sensitive matters MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The successful candidate will either possess or be working toward a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Preference will be given to candidates possessing or pursuing a degree in Human Resources management or a closely related field. Both graduate and undergraduate students will be considered. A valid motor vehicle operators license and successful completion of a background check and physical examination will be required. Candidates must have the right to work in the United States.
