ah the beavers... they come out every night just before the sun sets... you can hear them inside their lodge, squeaking, thumping, chewing, swimming, ... there are 5 of them. The parents and 3 children I presume. are they called kits? anyway, they have been timbering the woods big time lately. trees that are as big around as our shoulders easily, they chew through in one night, often they chew half way through several large trees, and just leave them never to return. when they drop huge trees, the get very industrious immediately. There are logs 8 inches around (the tops of the trees) that simply DISAPPEAR. I have no idea where they go, or how a beaver could possibly transport something of such size and weight. neighbors have taken to visiting, and that worries me. all the traffic has already moved them down the valley a bit, perhaps to avoid human interference. but their first lodge , although not entirely abandoned, is used infrequently. I dont know what happens to old lodges. I feel like these beavers are my friends. I would hate to see any harm come to them. I love them.
