alright, even though most of you pull wla rank on me since ive only been here since the 80s, i gotta pull out my rpg now. a true wla original and one of a kind: A VIDEO STORE NAMED DESIRE, or, as we said, desire video. walk in and you never knew what kind of mood buddha head mike was in, but if you loved movies, there was a 90% chance he had it, and for cheap-o. didnt matter if it was old classic hollywood, foreign, doc, or obscure cult, desire was the shiz. other mainstream joints couldnt compare, especially when browsing amongst piles, and i mean PILES AND PILES AND PILES of tapes and later discs, in aisles so crowded you hoped at least someone cute was browsing if youre gonna be crammed. and he played the lakes when it was hoops season, on that ratty old box stuck up on top of a rack, so you could always watch while browsing. if i couldnt find something, id ask mike and hed just fish it out, somehow, amongst the tsunami of tapes and discs. they should use the friggin dude to find that missing malaysian jet. for movie heads, its an experience; theres simply nothing like desire. before the current location, he was further west near bundy. today, with the mainstream dvd joints getting their azzes handed to them by netflix, desire is still there, chugging along with a handful of restaurants that also arent mainstream (save for cafe 50s which is sorta but not really). its still hardcore, entrepreneurial and 100% wla.
