Last week MP John McDonnell tabled a motion in Parliament calling on the BBC to reverse its decision to close BBC Three as a television channel. The motion is a way of MPs officially showing their public support for an issue. A bit like an MPs petition. As the BBC Trust scrutinises the proposal to cut BBC Three, we need to do everything we can to show that public opinion is against the cut -- including getting as many MP’s as possible to sign up to this motion. We’re doing well. Over 200,000 of us are urging the Trust against the decision. But I know we can do more. So now I need each and every one of you to write to your MP asking them to sign EDM 1160 -- to protect the future of BBC Three. It’s really simple to do, just follow the instructions below. It nurtures new talent - whether that is new writers, documentary makers, or new comedians. It has been a launch pad for programmes like The Mighty Boosh, Gavin and Stacey, and Little Britain. The BBC has a responsibility to provide for all and should be appealing to young audiences, who are future licence fee payers. Taking BBC 3 off television and cutting budgets by £65m will mean less investment for young people and will make it less accessible - particularly for those in rural areas who do not have a strong internet connection for streaming. Over 200,000 people have signed the petition on change.org to keep the channel on-air, and it has the backing of celebrities including Jack Whitehall, David Walliams and Stephen Fry. 3.
