#alwayshappydays Day 8 in NYC Out and about again today, and what a gorgeous day it was. 9 degrees and sunny. Icy air and the warmth of the sunshine, so beautiful. This morning while hubby slept (hes still having problems with the time difference) I waddled up to MY shop on 125th for a few bargains. Clothes and food are really cheap here. Weve bought another case....already, fun, fun, fun. Thing is when I get home wont be able to wear any of it for months (except the new bras). Very happy with my bargains but needed Jason to help carry ....hmmmm. Felt a little nostalgic as I came home as we move downtown tomorrow and bye bye Harlem. Ive loved it here but Jason wants to get into the full on action of downtown for a while. It will give a us more scope on NYC life to see it from different angles. When he was up and around we headed to soak up some sun in Central Park. We started at the North end last week so today caught the bus down 5th avenue to 109th street and picked up our journey moving southward. It truly is an astounding place. And with the sun beaming down on us it felt so....romantic. I kept saying.....were in Central Park New York....it just didnt seem real and I just had to stay in the moment and realise where we were. We walked southward along the paths to the reservoir and just beyond to the great lawn when we got snacky and headed out towards the west to get a cab back to Toms Restaurant, of Seinfeld fame. We have now officially done half of the park, so it looks like another day or 2 and we will have done the whole thing. The size is incomprehensible and it IS truly magical. Only in New York can a park be so magnificent. After our snack, we were in the Upper West Side at Broadway and 112th, we realised we were only on block away from the Hudson River. We first saw the Hudson 2 days ago from Battery park and were surprised at how clean it is. Same with the reservoir in the Park, where you can see about 3 foot down very clearly. So checked out Riverside Drive and the beautiful parkland that follows the river until about 4.30 when it started getting really cold. The sun is fully set by 5pm. Then I thought I had a handle on New York public transport and supposed we could just get a bus North to 125th, then a crosstown bus back home....yeah....no. Hmmm. The subway is so much easier to determine than the bus routes. We got off who knows where and had to hail a cab. No prob, easy peasy and within no time we were home again. Cabs are quick and cheap but for some reason they are still the last resort.....dont know why, I guess the public transport is just fun. Never use it at home so maybe its the novelty. So, snuggled up in our Harlem apartment for the last night. We are half way through our trip and feel like we have been here for ages. Lots of downtown exploring coming up. Quite a few pics taken today, mostly of ducks so Ill spare you with just a few and, ooooo, I love squirrels. They are so cute and so much smaller than I imagined. One comes into the backyard every morning. We must be in his territory. Anyway, goodnight, chat tomorrow We are happy :-)
