among my thoughts for white clergy seeking ways to help white - TopicsExpress

among my thoughts for white clergy seeking ways to help white parishoners grow spiritually while they struggle with racial justice issues (or some such thing) comes from my chaplain days and refined by my doctor spouse who deals with it more often: see a circle in which all are included; know you are not at the center of the circle; those most in pain and suffering and most vulnerable are; your motto and duty: comfort in--concern out. This means you let the ones, actually in concentric circles, closest to pain cry out say whatever lament concern and tell you what they need from you, and you comfort; you can then find someone in an outer circle to receive your concern and give you comfort. so be there to receive, dont try to fix, and find others to vent to yourself. The good news: you/they dont have to do anything but be quiet be there; the bad news: thats the hardest thing for some middle and upper class white people to do. :) that and they have to go someplace they dont usually go in order to practice this with people they dont already know. See further: Book of Job. it feels pretty darn timely right now.
