...and a light pierced the darkness. Instinctively, desperately, I grabbed for it and, to my surprise, caught it. Opening my hand I beheld the light, tiny as a teardrop, joyful for at last I would be rid of the darkness that had enveloped me for so long. I cradled it as a mother does her newborn, the end of Erebus within my grasp. As suddenly as it had appeared the glow began to dim, then slipped through my fingers as sand, and once again darkness was upon me. I cried out to the void, the deafening echo of silence my only recompense. Left alone, with naught but wretched memories to torture me endless, resigned to my circumstance.
