Deadshot Jeff Chan played like he wanted to stay in an Elasto Painters jersey, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in his most productive game of the young season. Chan admitted that his breakout performance had something to do with coach Yeng Guiao’s ultimatum to his players. “Actually, it’s just a reminder. Siguro natakot yung mga players. Ano nga rin mismo natakot eh,” Chan told a small group of sportswriters. Guiao missed Friday’s game to attend a conference at the House of Representatives, but his assistant coach Caloy Garcia revealed during the postgame interview that the team received a tongue-lashing from the fiery mentor and that everybody was reminded that no one is indispensable. “It was more of a challenge. Medyo natakot rin yung mga players sa sinabi ni Coach Yeng na kung hindi kami mananalo, kailangan gumalaw kami sa players. Ayaw ng mga players na may ma-trade,” added Garcia. “That’s one motivation. If the effort is not there, why keep them? Kung ayaw niyo ipakita na gusto niyo manalo, we have to make a move.” Rain or Shine guard Paul Lee, who has been banged up to start this conference, said that it was a good wake-up call for the team, which has not performed according to expectations. “Kitang-kita naman kasi na kulang talaga kami sa effort kaya kami nasabihan ng ganun,” added Lee.
