another in my rambling series of music from years gone by :: In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson. Released in Oct 1969. According to wiki, this album represents what my gen knew as underground music and was the leading edge of what was later called progressive rock. The album is generally viewed as one of the first works to truly embody the progressive rock genre, where King Crimson largely departed from the blues influences that rock music had been founded upon and mixed together jazz and classical symphonic elements. Heres a live performance. Features a lovely close-up of flutist Ian McDonald. And Mellotron! side notes: Greg Lake, founding member of KC in the 60s, went on to form Emerson, Lake & Palmer in the 70s with Keith Emerson of The Nice (and others).
