any 1 intrested in doing a course 60 euro for 6 weeks on animal welfare A17 Animal Rescue / Volunteer Introduction Course 12 hour course covering: Hour 1: An introduction to animal rescue. What you need to know. Different groups, their policies (kill/no kill), what is TNR, why is it so vital? Finding rescue groups in your area etc. Hour 2: What to do when you find a lost animal. Where to advertise, how to keep your ad to the point and make it easy for people to find, where can you advertise, what information should you put on fliers, what groups might foster the animal for you, what to do in the meantime etc. Hour 3: What to do when you lose an animal. Missing cats for example are almost always close by when they get lost, how to search for them, where are they likely to be, why they are likely to be gone missing, what to look out for, what information should you put on fliers, where to advertise etc. Hour 4: Cat rescue groups and what they do. What rescue groups are doing to keep feral cat population numbers down. The TNR program, what it is, where it came from, the issues you may encounter if you want to start a TNR program in your area, the importance of neutering etc. Hour 5: Dog rescue groups and what they do. What dog rescue groups are doing to try to keep as many dogs as possible out of pounds, what they are doing in regards to dangerous breeds and the legalities of homing these animals, licences, the importance of neutering etc. Hour 6: Fostering animals. Introducing your own cats/dogs to a cat/dog you are fostering. The issues you might face and advice/tips on how to deal with them, introducing an animal to children, making the animal feel safe, taking care of them etc. Hour 7: Rehoming animals. The questions you need to ask potential ‘adopters’ and why. Where to find possible homes, home checks, follow up visits etc. Hour 8: To collar or not to collar. The pros and cons of collars, why they are good and why they are bad, different types of collars etc. Hour 9: The latest technology to help keep your animal safe. Trackers that clip on to collars, a demonstration and talk, where to get them etc. Hour 10: Keeping your animals visible. Lights for collars, hi-vis jackets, making sure you cat or dog can be seen, reduce the risk of them getting lost or knocked down, sample products demonstration, where they can be purchased etc. Hour 11: Microchipping The importance of it, costs, getting animals scanned for a chip etc. Animal welfare and related legislation The animal welfare act, the dangerous breeds act, how dog legislation issues may apply to volunteers/fosterers etc. Hour 12: Dealing with the general public as a rescuer/volunteer.
